Sino-UAE Ties Strengthen as Chinese Gaming Behemoth Sets Up Shop in Dubai

China-based internet technology-focused conglomerate Tencent’s gaming platform, Tencent Games, will host its Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional headquarters in Dubai-based Dubai Internet City (DIC), the emirate’s premier technology-specific free zone.

In line with the UAE’s continued closed cooperation with Chinese entities, the setup affirms the confidence in the country as a top destination for talent and market, as well as a hub for expansion into the MENA region. Further and continued growth is to be expected in the region’s games industry, which includes digital entertainment, educational and cultural experiences as well.

The region’s large young population and high mobile and internet penetration poses an enticing factor for global tech firms to tap into further growth in the region, paralleling other industries looking to enter the MENA market for greater market opportunities. With this new development, the region’s game industry and supporting infrastructure sector looks set to achieve higher goals and improving the local and regional market.
